Hymns are a beautiful thing. I remember when I was younger and going to church. I didn’t like singing the hymns. I wanted to sing the contemporary music because it was upbeat and I could remember the words…really, I was making excuses. As I’ve gotten older, even though I am still young in many ways, nothing is better than singing a hymn from so long ago. The other day at church we sang this song and since then, I’ve been singing the refrain over and over because that is all I could remember! I am so quick to forget all that Christ has done in my life. Instead I focus on the issues that are right in front of me and I can’t seem to get away from.

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
    grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
    Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
    there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

    Grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
    grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that is greater than all our sin!

 Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
    threaten the soul with infinite loss;
    grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,

    points to the refuge, the mighty cross.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
    grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that is greater than all our sin!

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.
    What can avail to wash it away?
    Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
    brighter than snow you may be today.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
    grace, grace, God’s grace,
    grace that is greater than all our sin!

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
    freely bestowed on all who believe!
    You that are longing to see his face,

    will you this moment his grace receive?

   What other words can I say to better describe the grace that God so freely offers to us?
