Make Collette has about 50 kids that come to Thembiukosi Monday through Friday. She has 4 children of her own and can’t always provide food for the kids at the care point. Unlike other care points around Swaziland, Thembiukosi isn’t sponsored or funded by an outside source. “Since I have opened Thembiukosi God has provided everything I have needed for these kids. Some days all I have had is a few kilograms of mealy meal, some beans and some oil. But He has never failed me. He has always brought people to help me along the way.”
Collette and I stood outside a tile building with a tin roof. “Here is Thembiukosi,” she told me. “I want to make another classroom right here, a toilet down in that corner, and you can see the garden right there. It needs a little work, but when winter comes back around we will plow it and plant more vegetables. I want to teach the kids to use their hands as well and not just beg for food or money. God has given us this land and we should use it to provide for those around us.”
The care point is closed right now, mainly due to not having enough food for the kids to eat. For 11USD a day all 50 kids can have two meals a day for a month. That is 2 drinks at Starbucks, a meal or two at a fast food restaurant or even just one meal at Chili’s. $320 a month provides enough food to feed 50 kids. If you feel led to help out in any way please let me know.
